TCHC and the City of Toronto unveil emerging plan for Lawrence Heights revitalization

Feb 26, 2010
The revitalization plan will gradually transform the 100-acre community into a mixed-income and mixed-use community that replaces all 1,208 social housing units and adds 4,300 to 4,800 market units. Construction could start by late 2011.

Trauma and Homelessness Conference

This Trauma and Homelessness Conference took place in Toronto on Oct.7, 2009. Featured here are three video presentations; The first by a Toronto Trauma Panel, the second by Dr. Gabor Mate M.D., and the third by Boston therapist Peter Botteas M.A. Overall, these sessions enhanced awareness of assessing trauma in clients who are homeless.

Immigrants and Homelessness - A Risk in Canada's Outer Suburb: A Pilot Study in York Region (2009)

The high cost of housing in the outer suburbs combined with immigrants' low incomes makes newcomers, particularly recent arrivals, vulnerable to homelessness because of the extreme financial burden posed by shelter costs. The proposed study will explore the social backgrounds and housing experiences of immigrant households that are vulnerable to and at risk of homelessness in outer suburbs.
